It is also, though, tempting to imagine a least a little bit of teeth gritting going on as Apple selected Netflix for this list, given Apple’s currently thwarted hopes to set up its own video content subscription ‘channel’. After all, it provides the Apple TV with its most high profile source of subscription-based video streaming content right now - and the app also tries to integrate better than some with the Apple TV’s ‘content highlighting’ menu structure. On one level it’s not surprising to find Netflix making the list. The presentation is good and it’s just the sort of imaginative and potentially educational app Apple would be keen to promote.
